Auburn Football: 5 names to watch for as the Tigers next head coach
By Matt Melton
Matt Rhule
A name that will likely be in the mix for most power five openings this offseason, Rhule is also a name to watch for when it comes to the Auburn Football job.
The former head coach of the Carolina Panthers, Rhule has spent the past three seasons in the NFL, a span in which he posted a combined 11-27 record. While the professional game may not have been what was expected, Rhule’s collegiate resume however is noteworthy, one that does include turning around programs very quickly at his two stops as a head coach.
Rhule spent from 2013-16 at Temple, leading the Owls to a 28-23 record, two 10-win seasons, and two bowl game appearances after going 2-10 in year one with the program in 2013. Rhule would then depart for Baylor where he would spend from 2017-19, taking the Bears from a 1-11 record in 2017 to back-to-back bowl appearances in 2018-19, as well as an 11-win season and NY6 bowl game in 2019 as the Big 12 Coach of the Year.
A coach with a previous track record of turning programs around quickly at the collegiate level, could Rhule potentially be a name to watch for with Auburn Football?
