Tennessee Football blows out Kentucky behind offensive play
Tennessee Football destroyed the Kentucky Wildcats, 44-6. Hendon Hooker cooked up another great stat line for his Heisman campaign. Hooker went for 245 yards and 3 touchdowns. Jalin Hyatt caught 5 receptions for 138 yards and 2 touchdowns. This game wasn’t really a competition and was over by the second half.
The game started off with a touchdown drive from Hendon Hooker and company. After both teams punted the ball, Chris Rodriguez led the Wildcats to a TD with his legs. The touchdown would be their lone points of the game. They would miss the extra point, and they wouldn’t score for the rest of the game.
Tennessee would go on to another electric offensive show, and it would be 27-6 by half. It got to a point during the third quarter where Smokey the dog was just chilling.
Will Levis only had 98 yards on 16 completions. He also threw 3 interceptions. Obviously, he didn’t really have a good game. This was a horrible game for his draft stock. He quite simply didn’t look like a top NFL draft pick Saturday night. It really doesn’t help that Tennessee’s secondary isn’t really good.
Chris Rodriguez had 64 yards on 15 carries, as he didn’t really get anything going besides the aforementioned drive. The Wildcats’ offense looked really rough tonight, only having a little more than 200 total yards in this game.
Tennessee Football blows out Kentucky behind offensive play
I didn’t think Kentucky would win this game. I did think this game would be more competitive than it ended up being. It was not. Kentucky’s secondary couldn’t keep up with Tennessee’s playmakers all night.
Going forward, look for Kentucky to try to get back in the win column against Missouri. It would be really good for the Wildcats to prove that they can at least stop an offense that isn’t the best in the country after this game. If they don’t get bowl eligible against Missouri, I do expect them to beat Vanderbilt. That win would make this team bowl eligible.
Assuming they get beat by Georgia, they will be playing Louisville for the Governor’s cup. I really think a Malik Cunnigham-led offense would be a really good test to end the regular season.
After basically letting the Vols roll over their secondary, I think it would be good for Kentucky’s secondary to end on a good note. Playing well on defense against Missouri and Louisville would be a good response to this game. I didn’t expect Kentucky to win this game but I expected them to put up a fight defensively. They didn’t. Hopefully, they can do better in November.
All eyes in Knoxville are laser-focused on the Tennessee-Georgia game next week. I am highly excited about this game. Tennessee’s offense versus Georgia’s defense will be prime-time viewing. This game is the most impactful on who gets into the college football playoff left on the schedule.
I am really looking forward to this matchup. This game will have massive consequences for the playoff. Assuming they win out the rest of the regular season, the team that wins this game will be the best team in the country going into conference title week.
While they will need to win the title game to automatically clinch a playoff spot, you certainly have a great case for the playoff even if you lose the SEC title game.
This game will be the hardest defense this Tennessee Football offense has faced all year. This game will be a battle of the best offense in college football vs the best defense in college football. The question will be if Hendon Hooker can rise to the challenge.
