Ole Miss Football defeats Texas A&M in closer game than expected
The Ole Miss Rebels beat the Texas A&M Aggies, 31-28. Quinshon Judkins ran for 205 yards on 34 carries. Additionally, he ran for 1 touchdown. Overall, Ole Miss Football ran for almost 400 yards. Conner Weigman ended up being the QB the Aggies have missed all season in this game, despite the loss. Weigman threw for 338 yards and 4 TD.
The game started out as expected. Judkins used his legs to move the Rebels down the field for a TD. A little shockingly, Texas A&M responded with an offensive TD of their own. Devon Achane led the way with his legs, and Weigman was able to hold his own.
Ole Miss would have to punt on their next drive, and Achane went to work and led the Aggies down the field once again for a score. The game turned into three and outs after midway through the second quarter, when a combination of Dart passes and Judkins’ runs led the Rebels into good field position and three points.
A&M’s offense finally played down to their reputation in the second half by punting the ball twice and fumbling it near midfield between to start the third quarter. Ole Miss’ offense woke up and went to work, scoring a TD twice between those A&M drives. The Rebels took a 24-14 lead, going into the fourth.
Conner Weigman proved useful, leading the Aggies down the field for a touchdown on the next drive, cutting the lead to three. Judkins would respond quickly with a 61-yard run on the first play of the drive. Three plays later, the Rebels had extended the game to two possessions.
The Rebels’ offense would shut down for the rest of the game, as they ended three and out their last two drives of the game. Weigman would lead the Aggies down the field for a touchdown with 1:25 to go in the fourth, but the Rebels still led by three.
Ole Miss would recover the onside kick, but as mentioned couldn’t do anything with it. The Aggies had the ball with 49 seconds to go. Weigman couldn’t get anything going and A&M lost the ball on downs. Ole Miss survived.

Once again, the Ole Miss Football offense stalled during the points of the game. This was a huge concern of mine before the LSU game. Despite winning this time, the offense disappearing for quarters is still a huge problem. Besides the Arkansas game, (which I think they will win because Arkansas has issues of their own), I really don’t think they will any more games this season.
While it might be an unpopular opinion, I think Mississippi State’s offense will be too consistent for the Rebels and they are not beating Bama. 9 or 10 wins is impressive, but I think this squad will always wonder what could have been if they took care of their issues.
Obviously, The Aggies are not in a good spot. They are paying their head coach 7.5 million dollars and the best they could probably do this season is the Gasparilla Bowl. Considering LSU is way better than them, they would have to beat UMass, Florida, and Auburn to make a bowl.
Undeniably, the offense has been the issue this year. The defense has gotten a little worse in weeks, which is probably due to better competition, but it has been solid this year. Due to his high buyout number, Jimbo Fisher will not be fired this year.
Maybe just maybe Weigman can be the answer at QB for the rest of the season, and help the Aggies avoid a bigger national embarrassment. For a team that had high expectations going into this year, this wasn’t the season they were looking for. It is looking increasingly likely that they will miss a bowl game, can A&M turn it around and at least go bowling this season?
