The biggest game in both college and SEC football this Saturday, Georgia and Tennessee collide in Athens for a matchup that will likely decide the SEC East. A head-to-head contest that Georgia has owned in recent years, the Bulldogs have won the last five meetings between the two dating back to 2017, with Tennessee’s last win coming back in 2016 in Athens.

Beginning with a look at Georgia, the Bulldogs are currently undefeated at 8-0, as well as 5-0 in SEC Football play, and are coming off a 42-20 neutral-site win over Florida last Saturday. Entering their first matchup against a ranked team since week one, Georgia is also currently ranked as the No. 3 team in the country according to the latest College Football Playoff rankings, and has also held the top ranking in the AP Poll for the past four weeks.

The Bulldogs offense comes into this contest averaging 41.8 PPG, a number that ranks sixth-most in all of college football, as well as 530.1 yards per game, 202 of which come on the ground. Leading the Georgia offense is experienced quarterback Stetson Bennett, while running backs Daijun Edwards and Kenny McIntosh, as well as tight ends Brock Bowers and Darnell Washington, are names to know alongside receivers Ladd McConkey, Marcus Rosemy-Jacksaint, and Kearis Jackson.

Defensively, Georgia currently ranks No. 2 in the nation by allowing only 10.5 PPG to opponents, as well as only 262.6 total yards per game. The Bulldogs will be without leading pass rusher Nolan Smith due to an injury, with the Georgia defense led by names such as Jamon Dumas-Johnson, Malaki Starks, Smael Mondon Jr, and Christopher Smith.

Tennessee on the other hand comes to Athens ranked as the No. 1 team in the country according to the latest College Football Playoff rankings, as well as No. 2 in the latest AP Poll. The Volunteers are currently undefeated at 8-0 overall, as well as 4-0 in SEC Football play, and are coming off a dominant 44-6 victory over Kentucky last Saturday night in Knoxville.

As you’ve likely heard, the Tennessee offense currently ranks first nationally with an average of 49.4 PPG, a group that is also averaging 553 total yards per game. Leading the Volunteers offense is the arguable Heisman frontrunner in quarterback Hendon Hooker, while others such as Jalin Hyatt, Bru McCoy, Jabari Small, Ramel Keyton, Cedric Tillman, and Jaylen Wright are all names to know.

On defense, Tennessee is allowing a total of 21 PPG, a unit that is led in tackles by the duo of Trevon Flowers and Aaron Beasley, both of which have 45+ tackles on the year. Byron Young leads the Volunteers with five sacks this season, while others such as Jeremy Banks, Christian Charles, and Kamal Hadden are also key names on the Tennessee defense.

Georgia vs Tennessee SEC Football Prediction

Undoubtedly the biggest game of the week in college football, all eyes will be on Athens this Saturday for a game that could decide who wins the SEC East. Expect this game to deliver on the hype as well, with my pick going to Georgia ultimately winning the contest, in part due to their defense being a difference maker against the electric Tennessee offense. Prediction: Georgia 38, Tennessee 30
