After opening their 2022-23 SEC Basketball season Tuesday night, South Carolina is now set for their toughest test yet as the Gamecocks will host in-state rival Clemson Friday night inside Colonial Life Arena.

Beginning with a look at the Gamecocks, South Carolina (1-0) opened the 2022-23 campaign Tuesday night at home with an 80-77 win over South Carolina State. In what was the South Carolina debut for new head coach Lamont Paris, the Gamecocks had three players in double-figures led by guard Hayden Brown with a game-high 21 points, with freshman GG Jackson also adding a double-double in his highly anticipated collegiate debut (18 points, 10 rebounds).

Elsewhere for the Gamecocks was returning guard Jacobi Wright also landing in double-figures with 14 points, while Ohio State transfer Meechie Johnson also impressed in his South Carolina debut. Chico Carter Jr rounded out the starting lineup by adding five points, while Josh Gray made a key impact off the Gamecocks bench by adding five points, six rebounds, and two blocks.

As for Clemson (1-0), the Tigers also opened their season with a home win Monday night over The Citadel, 80-69. A game in which the Tigers used a late first half run to pull away, Clemson was led by guard Chase Hunter with a game-high 23 points, while they also had double-doubles from both Ian Schieffelin and Hunter Tyson.

Clemson also had another starter in double-figures in guard Brevin Galloway, while Alex Hemenway and Ben Middlebrooks also started for the Tigers. On the Clemson bench, three others also saw time in addition to the previously mentioned Schieffelin in RJ Godfrey, Dillon Hunter, and Joshua Beadle.

South Carolina vs Clemson SEC Basketball Prediction

With this game being played in Columbia, I’ll say that South Carolina remains unbeaten with a close win over rival Clemson. In addition to that, I’ll say that GG Jackson has a big game for the Gamecocks, picking up yet another double-double to begin his collegiate career. Prediction: South Carolina 74, Clemson 70

As mentioned previously, South Carolina vs Clemson will be played on Friday, November 11 from Colonial Life Arena in Columbia, SC. The game will begin at 7:00 PM ET, and will be available on either SEC Network+ or ESPN+.
