One of SEC Basketball’s biggest games so far this season, Kentucky is set to face Michigan State on Tuesday night in the State Farm Champions Classic. Only the 10th ever meeting between the two college basketball powers, Kentucky owns a 5-4 all-time advantage in the head-to-head series between the two, as well as having won the last two meetings back in 2016 and 2019.

SEC Basketball’s highest-ranked team, Kentucky comes into this contest with a 2-0 overall record, as well as ranked as the No. 4 team in the country. The Wildcats also defeated Duquesne 77-52 in their most recent contest at home, which adds to a season resume that also includes a win over Howard inside Rupp Arena.

The Wildcats also come into this contest averaging 86 PPG offensively, as well as allowing only 57.5 PPG to opponents. A team that is shooting a combined 51.2% from three between two games, the Wildcats are led in scoring by guard Antonio Reeves at 20 PPG, while four others are also averaging double-figures in CJ Fredrick, Jacob Toppin, Cason Wallace, and Sahvir Wheeler.

Michigan State enters Tuesday with a 1-1 overall record, with the Spartans coming off their first loss of the 2022-23 season against Gonzaga, a game in which they fell 64-63. This was however an impressive showing for the Spartans as Michigan State actually led for a majority of the second half, with this game coming off the heels of a season opening win at home over Northern Arizona.

The Spartans are averaging 68 PPG across two games this season while allowing only 59.5 PPG to opponents, and are led by two double-digit scorers in AJ Hoggard and Joey Hauser, both of which are averaging 10 PPG. Pierre Brooks and Tyson Walker are both averaging 9 PPG in the Michigan State backcourt as well, while Mady Sissoko and Malik Hall are each averaging 7 RPG.

Kentucky vs Michigan State SEC Basketball Prediction

While Michigan State certainly impressed in their most recent contest against Gonzaga, this game is likely Kentucky’s to lose. Expect the Wildcats to win this game by anywhere from 5-to-10 points, and to pick up a big early season win to add to their resume. Prediction: Kentucky 76, Michigan State 67
