Tennessee Football takes awhile to beat Missouri in bounce back game
The Tennessee Volunteers beat the Missouri Tigers, 66-24. The Volunteers need a bounce-back game after losing to Georiga last week and they got one. The offense exploded for a lot of yards. This was a close game because of Tennessee Football’s poor secondary, which got beaten a lot in the first half.
The game started out with a three-and-out from the Tigers. The Volunteers quickly got to work and scored a TD. Missouri once again had to punt the ball after three plays. Tennessee got the ball back with a good field position and quickly got the first down. After getting one first down, they struggled on this drive. They ended up going for it on fourth and turned the ball over on downs.
Brady Cook unlocked this Tigers offense and Missouri went down the field for a touchdown. With the first quarter winding down, it was a tie game. This was a bit unexpected. Quickly Hendon Hooker made it untied, and led them to a TD. Missouri struggled on the next drive and couldn’t get anything on their only three plays of the drive.
Tennessee did the same thing they did on the last drive and scored a TD. It was 28-14 and it seemed like the game was out of reach for Missouri. Tennessee’s offense got shut down on downs in their last drive of the half.
With only 37 seconds remaining, Missouri went 44 yards to get a field goal. It was 28-17, going into the half. Considering the fact that Tennessee is one of the best teams in the country, that’s a pretty score for Missouri going into the half.
Coming out of the half, Tennessee would do the unthinkable on offense and struggle. They had to punt after 5 plays and only one first down. The offense had two flags on that drive that stopped them from going anywhere. Missouri took advantage of this. Brady Cook cooked and the Tigers scored a TD, on their way to make it a 4-point game.
Two plays later, Tennessee practically made Missouri see the end-game screen on madden as they scored a TD in two plays. Missouri’s Wifi went out as the connection to the controller went out for the Tigers’ offense. They would struggle in the second half, as they basically had three and outs for the rest of the game.
A lot of touchdowns later, Tennessee Football would win 66-24. Hendon Hooker had a day, throwing for 355 yards on 23 completions. Additionally, he had 3 touchdowns. Jalin Hyatt caught 7 passes for 146 yards.

While they did not come with the win, Brady Cook would have a very great game. He had a total of over 300 scrimmage yards (217 passing yards,106 rushing yards). Additionally, he had 2 passing touchdowns. Tennessee’s secondary isn’t great but still, that is a lot of yards.
Considering that this whole year Missouri has been in games against way more talented teams, it’s a little upsetting that the road to bowl eligibility is a little bit of a steep one. I still think they will beat New Mexico St this week (Which means they get to 5 wins), but to win the Arkansas game will be a tall order.
I wouldn’t be shocked if they beat Arkansas because the Razorbacks have issues of their own, but still Arkansas is the better team and will/should (on the edge of this) be favored to win this matchup. The Auburn game will probably cost them bowl eligibility. Still, I enjoyed watching them play this year. While they might not make a bowl, Missouri was fun to watch this year.
Tennessee Football comes out of the game with nothing really change based on this sole game. The Vols should win out. The worst-case scenario for this team should be a result like the one against their last two opponents, South Carolina and Vandy.
The Vols still need some help to get into the playoff. First, Georgia needs to win the SEC title game (as that gets way too complicated if LSU wins the SEC title game). Second, to fully secure a spot going into the final rankings, they need two of Michigan, Ohio State, USC, or TCU to lose at least once.
It’s a lot more complicated than that, but I will write about that in a future article for the site. The Tennessee Volunteers will win out (assuming they take care of business). Still, they will probably need some help to get into the playoff. The question is, can they get it?
