Two of college basketball’s top teams, Kentucky and Gonzaga are set to collide Sunday night for a top five matchup between SEC Basketball and WCC powers.

Currently ranked as the No. 4 team in the country, Kentucky comes into this contest with a 3-1 overall record, as well as coming off a bounce back 106-63 home win over South Carolina State on Thursday. This was the game after the Wildcats fell to Michigan State 86-77 in double overtime in the State Farm Champions Classic, with Kentucky also holding wins over Howard and Duquesne so far this season.

Kentucky also comes into this contest averaging 88 PPG offensively, with a total of six different players currently averaging in double-figures in CJ Fredrick, Oscar Tshiebwe, Antonio Reeves, Cason Wallace, Sahvir Wheeler, and Jacob Toppin. The Wildcats are also allowing 66 PPG to opponents, as well as averaging a noteworthy 10 SPG and 8.3 BPG.

As for Gonzaga, the Bulldogs are currently ranked as the No. 2 team in the country, but are coming off their first loss of the 2022-23 season Wednesday night, falling on the road to Texas in a Top 25 showdown, 93-74. The Bulldogs, who are the preseason favorite to win the WCC, had previously defeated both North Florida and Michigan State prior to their matchup with the Longhorns.

Rated as the No. 1 team nationally in offensive efficiency according to kenpom, Gonzaga comes into Sunday averaging 80.7 PPG, while also shooting a combined 52.3% from the field as a team through three games. Also allowing 73 PPG to opponents, the Bulldogs have two double-digit scorers in Drew Timme and Julian Strawther, as well as a talented group of guards that also includes Rasir Bolton, Malachi Smith, Nolan Hickman, and Hunter Sallis.

Kentucky vs Gonzaga SEC Basketball Prediction

Another SEC Basketball team in Alabama also went to Washington a year ago to hand the Bulldogs a loss, and this Kentucky team is certainly capable of doing the exact same. Yes, this game will be close throughout, but I’ll say that the Wildcats do hand Gonzaga their second consecutive loss, winning the game by anywhere from 5-to-10 points. Prediction: Kentucky 77, Gonzaga 72
