An SEC Basketball/Big 12 showdown, Missouri is set to host Kansas on Saturday night in what is undoubtedly the Tigers toughest test up to this point. Missouri has also lost seven consecutive meetings against the Jayhawks dating back to 2009, which includes a 102-65 loss in Lawrence a year ago.

Currently in year one under new head coach Dennis Gates, Missouri is off to an impressive start to the 2022-23 season, owning an undefeated 9-0 overall record. The Tigers also rank No. 1 in the country by averaging 93 PPG offensively, as well as No. 292 defensively by allowing 73.8 PPG to opponents.

Shooting a combined 51.6% from the field as a team, Missouri has five total players averaging in double-figures led by D’Moi Hodge at 16.7 PPG, with Kobe Brown, Noah Carter, Sean East, and Nick Honor also in that group. DeAndre Gholston and Isiaih Mosley are not far behind that group either, while Tre Gomillion and Aidan Shaw are also names to know for the Tigers.

Kansas comes to Columbia rated as the No. 6 team in the country, holding an 8-1 overall record that includes wins over teams such as Duke, NC State, and Wisconsin, as well as their lone loss having come to Tennessee. The Jayhawks also rank No. 95 nationally with an average of 77.7 PPG offensively, while also allowing 65.4 PPG defensively to rank No. 103 in the country.

The Jayhawks are led by one of the Big 12’s top players in forward Jalen Wilson at 21.9 PPG and 9.3 RPG, with two others in Gradey Dick and Kevin McCullar also averaging in double-figures. Dajuan Harris and KJ Adams Jr are also two prominent scorers for the Jayhawks, while MJ Rice and Joseph Yesufu are two additional names to know.

Missouri vs Kansas SEC Basketball Prediction

Even despite this game being played in Columbia, this matchup is likely Kansas’ to lose. I’ll say that the Jayhawks pickup the win by at-least 5-to-10 points, with Kansas eventually pulling away in the second half. Prediction: Missouri 66, Kansas 79
