One of LSU Baseball’s top hitters the past two seasons, Tre’ Morgan returns to Baton Rouge this spring for what will be his junior campaign in 2023. Also one of the top first basemen in the entire SEC as well, what will the 2023 season have in store for Morgan?

LSU Baseball 2023 Season Preview: 1B Tre’ Morgan

A former in-state prep prospect out of Brother Martin High School, Morgan originally burst onto the scene with the Tigers as a freshman during the 2021 season, one in which the first baseman was one of the SEC’s top players at the position.

Across 63 games as a freshman, Morgan would slash .357/.441/.526 with .968 OPS as the Tigers primary first baseman, along with six HR, 42 RBI, and 15 SB, as well as a 41:25 K:BB ratio. Ranking Top 10 in the SEC in multiple statistical categories, Morgan was also a two-time SEC Freshman of the Week selection back in 2021, while also being named Freshman All-American, Second-Team All-SEC, Freshman All-SEC, and SEC All-Defense that season.

As for last season, Morgan would take a tiny step back in production offensively, but was still one of LSU’s top hitters slashing .324/.414/.463 with an .876 OPS, along with five HR, 54 RBI, and a 26:25 K:BB ratio. Starting in 61-of-62 games as the Tigers first baseman, Morgan was selected SEC All-Defense for the second consecutive year as well, on top of what was yet another strong season at the plate.

A combined .341 hitter across two seasons in Baton Rouge, Morgan now enters his 2023 junior season as one of the SEC’s top first basemen, both offensively and defensively.

The junior is potentially set for All-SEC honors this season, and should be one of LSU’s top hitters once again, with recent history showing that Morgan is likely to own an AVG north of .300 in 2023. An elite player defensively at first base, Morgan could also receive SEC All-Defense honors for the third consecutive season as well.

Overall, expect Morgan to have yet another strong season on one of the SEC’s top teams, and for the junior to be an often talked about name from the conference as it pertains to the 2023 MLB Draft.
