LSU Baseball 2023 Season Preview: OF Josh Stevenson
A former in-state product out of St. Thomas More High School, Stevenson, as mentioned above, appeared in 40 total games for the Tigers a year ago, 15 of which he started in left field.
As a freshman, Stevenson would slash .200/.379/.308 with a .687 OPS for the Tigers, while also driving in nine RBI with a 31:17 K:BB ratio. Stevenson also hit one HR, as well as four 2B, across 65 at-bat’s.
After emerging last season in what was his first in Baton Rouge, Stevenson now enters the 2023 campaign as undoubtedly a name to know in the LSU outfield. However, just what kind potential role will the sophomore outfielder play for LSU baseball in 2023?
Starting in 15 games a year ago, Stevenson is likely to see that number increase this season, with the sophomore even potentially entering the year as a starter for LSU. Even if Stevenson doesn’t enter the year as a starter as well, the sophomore is undoubtedly still going to see a significant number of appearances this season, and is likely to eclipse his offensive sample size from a year ago.
Expect an uptick in a few statistical categories for Stevenson as well, most notably AVG, SLG, and RBI, with the sophomore also likely to draw a significant amount of walks offensively as well.
Overall, expect a strong season for Stevenson in 2023, and for the sophomore to play a key role both offensively and defensively in the LSU outfield.
2023 Season Prediction: .230 AVG, .370 OBP, .340 SLG, .710 OPS, 30 R, 8 2B, 3 HR, 18 RBI, 5 SB
