One of the biggest SEC basketball games this Saturday, Tennessee is set to travel out west for a Top 10 showdown with Arizona. Only the sixth-ever meeting between the two teams (Tennessee owns 4-1 all-time advantage), this is a rematch of the Volunteers 77-73 win over the Wildcats in Knoxville a year ago.

One of SEC basketball’s top teams, Tennessee comes into Saturday ranked as the No. 6 team in the country holding a 9-1 record, with the Volunteers also on an eight-game winning streak at the moment. The Volunteers have the No. 3 scoring defense in the country allowing only 51.4 PPG to opponents, with Tennessee’s offense currently averaging 74 PPG to rank No. 154 nationally.

The Volunteers also have five total players averaging in double-figures, a group led by freshman Julian Phillips at 11.6 PPG and 6.1 RPG. Santiago Vescovi, Tyreke Key, Olivier Nkamhoua, and Zakai Zeigler are also members of that group, with Jahmai Mashack as a key name to know off of the Tennessee bench.

Arizona on the other hand enters Saturday ranked as the No. 9 team in the country, one that owns a 9-1 overall record, as well as a 1-1 mark in Pac-12 play. Having won three consecutive games over California, Indiana, and Texas A&M-Corpus Christi, the Wildcats own the nation’s No. 1 scoring offense averaging 92 PPG on a combined 54.7% shooting from the field as a team (also leads nation), while also allowing 75.7 PPG to opponents on defense.

The Wildcats are led by one of the nation’s top frontcourt duos in Azuolas Tubelis and Oumar Ballo, one that has combined for 38.3 PPG and 18 RPG so far this season. Arizona also has three other players averaging in double-figures in guards Kerr Kriisa, Courtney Ramey, and Pelle Larsson, with Cedric Henderson Jr also a key name to know as the senior guard is currently shooting 46.2% from three.

Tennessee vs Arizona SEC Basketball Prediction

A matchup that features the top team in offensive efficiency facing the top team in defensive efficiency according to KenPom, it’s clear to see why this showdown between the Volunteers and Wildcats is one of the best in the country Saturday. With this game being played in Tucson however, I’ll say that Arizona comes away with the win, in part due to big games from the Wildcats frontcourt duo of Tubelis and Ballo. Prediction: Tennessee 65, Arizona 72
