Two historical giants in college basketball, Kentucky and UCLA are set to collide Saturday for the 2022 CBS Sports Classic. A head-to-head series that is tied 5-5 all-time, this will be the first meeting between the Wildcats and Bruins since 2017, with UCLA also having won three of the last four meetings between the two.
Currently on a four-game winning streak, Kentucky comes into Saturday ranked as the No. 13 team in the country, with the Wildcats owning a 7-2 overall record. Kentucky’s lone losses have come to Michigan State and Gonzaga, with the Wildcats also owning notable wins over teams such as Yale and Michigan.
The Wildcats are led by the reigning National and SEC Player of the Year Oscar Tshiebwe, as well as guard Antonio Reeves who is shooting a noteworthy 48.2% from three this season. Kentucky also has Jacob Toppin and Cason Wallace averaging in double-figures so far this season, with Sahvir Wheeler, CJ Fredrick, and Chris Livingston as the additional names to know.
UCLA however is on a six-game winning streak entering Saturday, one that includes wins over the likes of Maryland, Oregon, and Stanford. Ranked as the No. 16 team in the country, the Bruins also currently hold a 9-2 overall record, as well as a 2-0 mark in Pac-12 play.
Averaging 81.8 PPG offensively, the Bruins are led in scoring by guard Jaime Jaquez Jr at 17.1 PPG, with four others also averaging in double-figures in Jaylen Clark, Tyger Campbell, David Singleton, and Amari Bailey. Adem Bona is also a name to watch for in the UCLA frontcourt averaging 7.8 PPG and 4.4 RPG on 68.9% shooting from the field.

As indicated by the line above alone, this matchup between Kentucky and UCLA is likely going to be close throughout. The guard play for both teams will be key in this contest, but I’ll say that the difference maker for Kentucky comes down low in Tshiebwe, and the Wildcats win a close one in the 2022 CBS Sports Classic. Prediction: Kentucky 72, UCLA 68
