Alabama (SEC Champ, 1st in the West, CFP bound)

Individual Awards: Jordan Battle (SEC Defensive Player of the Year)

Evaluation: Obviously Alabama did not make the college football playoff this year for the second time since its inception. I thought they’d bounce back from last year’s loss in the National Championship game but instead the 2022 Crimson Tide struggled to win close games and found themselves at No. 5 on Selection Sunday.

My pick for SEC DPOY was SS Jordan Battle. That was wrong as his teammate Will Anderson made history. Anderson became the first player to win SEC Defensive Player of the Year in back-to-back years since they began giving out the award.

Regardless of my own lofty prediction, Alabama still had an impressive season. Suffering only two losses would be a win for any program, but the Crimson Tide demand a different level of excellence. And the public, including myself, has become accustomed to it. So, with that, I’m not going to be too harsh with my final grade here.

Grade: B
