Georgia football has officially made one of the biggest splashes of the Early Signing Period by landing a commitment from Damon Wilson. Wilson, a five-star edge rusher, announced his commitment to the Bulldogs over a list of finalists that also included Alabama and Ohio State.
5-star EDGE Damon Wilson commits to Georgia Football
As mentioned previously, Wilson is considered as a five-star prospect out of Venice High School in Florida, with the edge rusher also having entered the day as the nation’s highest-rated prospect remaining uncommitted in the 2023 class.
Wilson is also considered as the No. 2 edge rusher nationally in the 2023 class according to the 247Sports Composite, sitting behind only Alabama commit Keon Keeley. Wilson is also rated as the No. 4 overall player in the talent-rich state of Florida, trailing only Miami commits Cormani McClain and Francis Mauigoa, as well as Keeley.
Playing for Florida Class 4S state runner up Venice this past season, Wilson compiled a total of 94 tackles, 10 TFL, and 10 sacks across 13 games for the Indians, which was an encore performance from an impressive season the year prior. In 2021, Wilson had 90 tackles, 23 TFL, and 15 sacks across 15 games for an Indians team that won the Florida Class 8A state title.
Truly one of the premier edge rushers in the 2023 class, Wilson instantly becomes the Georgia’s highest-rated commit in their 2023 class, one that is one of the best in the SEC. Wilson is also the Bulldogs second five-star commit joining cornerback AJ Harris, as well as the third edge rusher joining four-star’s Samuel M’Pemba and Gabriel Harris, both of which attend IMG Academy in Florida.
Looking ahead, Wilson is undoubtedly a name to know in 2023 along Georgia football’s defensive front, even despite being a true freshman. Could the five-star be an instant-impact player for the Bulldogs next season?
