With non-conference action nearing an end, as well as SEC basketball conference play set to begin in the coming days, here is the latest update of our 2022-23 power rankings, headlined by a rise from both Tennessee and Georgia.

Tennessee, Georgia rise in latest 2022-23 SEC basketball power rankings

14. South Carolina Gamecocks

Previous Ranking: 14

Beginning here with South Carolina, the Gamecocks remain in the No. 14 spot this week with a 6-6 overall record up to this point. Included in the month of December so far for the Gamecocks is a 3-2 mark that includes’ wins over Georgetown, Presbyterian, and Western Kentucky, as well as losses in two of their last three games to UAB and East Carolina.

South Carolina has one additional non-conference game remaining this month against Eastern Michigan, a game in which the Gamecocks will likely be favored. The Gamecocks will then open SEC play January 3 on the road at Vanderbilt.

13. Vanderbilt Commodores

Previous Ranking: 13

Vanderbilt also remains in the No. 13 spot in this week’s update, with the Commodores also sitting at 6-6 overall this season. Vanderbilt originally began the month of December on a high note with wins over Wofford and Pittsburgh, but then lost two-straight against Grambling and NC State, and snapped that streak in their most recent contest with a 70-62 home win over Alabama A&M.

The Commodores have one more game remaining on their non-conference schedule, which comes at home against Southeastern Louisiana. Vanderbilt will then open SEC play at home on January 3 with the previously mentioned showdown with South Carolina.
