Alabama Football: 5 players to watch for during 2022 Sugar Bowl
By Matt Melton
When Alabama football takes the field Saturday for the 2022 Allstate Sugar Bowl against Kansas State, the Crimson Tide will be without a few notable names due to players having entered the transfer portal. In their place, who are some names to watch for at those positions, as well as some younger players who could potentially see additional time for the Crimson Tide against the Wildcats?
5 Alabama football players to watch for during 2022 Sugar Bowl
OL Tyler Booker
With starting left guard Javion Cohen having departed for Miami via the transfer portal, Booker is the likely starter for the Crimson Tide at the position against Kansas State. Booker, a former four-star, was named to the SEC All-Freshman Team this season, and is likely to be a big factor in the Crimson Tide’s 2023 offensive line plans next season.
WR Kendrick Law
Also a freshman, Law is a name to watch for at wide receiver who could play a larger role in the Sugar Bowl in the place of names who have since entered the transfer portal. Similar to Booker, Law is also a former four-star, and has begun to emerge late in the season, catching six passes for 81 yards across Alabama’s last three games.
QB Jalen Milroe
Even despite starting quarterback Bryce Young playing against Kansas State, could we possibly see backup Jalen Milroe as well? Milroe, a redshirt freshman, has appeared in seven games so far this season, completing 59.6% of his passes for 297 yards with a 5:3 TD:INT ratio, while also having rushed for 263 yards and a score on 31 attempts.
QB Ty Simpson
Speaking of the quarterback position, could we potentially see Simpson also? Also a freshman, the former five-star has appeared in four games for the Crimson Tide this season, completing 4-of-5 passes for 35 yards.
WR Isaiah Bond
Bond, a freshman, is also a name to watch for at the wide receiver position as a player who could potentially see a larger role against Kansas State. The former four-star has 16 receptions for 214 yards so far this season for the Crimson Tide.
