A Top 10 matchup, Alabama and Kansas State are set to meet for the first time ever Saturday afternoon, with the Crimson Tide and Wildcats facing off in the 2022 Allstate Sugar Bowl.
Ranked as the No. 5 team in the country according to the latest College Football Playoff rankings, Alabama is coming off a regular season in which they finished 10-2, as well as 6-2 in SEC play. The Crimson Tide are also appearing in only their third non-CFP bowl game since 2014, as well as making their sixth Sugar Bowl appearance under Nick Saban, with Alabama holding a 2-3 record in those five games so far.
Offensively, Alabama ranks No. 4 nationally with an average of 40.8 PPG, and are led by one of the nation’s top quarterbacks in Bryce Young, who has thrown for 3,007 yards and a 27:5 TD:INT ratio so far this season. Jahmyr Gibbs and Jase McClellan are Alabama’s top two running backs, while the receiving game will feature Ja’Corey Brooks, Jermaine Burton, Cameron Latu, Kobe Prentice, and more.
The Crimson Tide defense also ranks Top 10 nationally with 18 PPG allowed to opponents (No. 9 in nation), and are led by one of the nation’s top players in outside linebacker Will Anderson Jr., who has 10 sacks this season. Alabama’s top tacklers have 90+ each in DeMarcco Hellams and Henry To’oTo’o, while others such as Brian Branch, Byron Young, Jordan Battle, and Dallas Turner are among the names to know.
The 2022 Big 12 champions, Kansas State comes into Saturday ranked as the No. 9 team in the country according to the College Football Playoff rankings, owning a 10-3 overall record that also included a 7-2 mark in Big 12 play. The Wildcats also enter the 2022 Sugar Bowl on a four-game winning streak, with their most recent contest being a 31-28 win over TCU, which was the Horned Frogs lone defeat of the season so far.
The Wildcats offense ranks No. 30 nationally with an average of 33.2 PPG, and has used two different quarterbacks this season in Adrian Martinez and Will Howard. Kansas State’s top offensive playmaker is likely running back Deuce Vaughn, who ranked No. 2 in the Big 12 this season with 1,425 rushing yards, while Malik Knowles, Phillip Brooks, Kade Warner, and Ben Sinnott are the top options at the receiving game.
Defensively, Kansas State ranks No. 19 nationally by allowing 20.1 PPG, and are led by Austin Moore with a team-high 85 tackles. Felix Anudike-Uzomah is the Wildcats top pass rusher at 8.5 sacks this season, while Drake Cheatum, Josh Hayes, Kobe Savage, Daniel Green, and Brendan Mott are among the other names to know.

As of Friday, Alabama is a 6.5-point favorite over Kansas State in the 2022 Sugar Bowl according to FanDuel. The Crimson Tide are also -275 with the Wildcats at +220, while the over/under is at 55.5.

It’s simply hard to pick against Alabama here, even despite the few names missing who have since transferred. I’ll say that the Crimson Tide win by at-least two touchdowns, with Alabama receiving a game big from quarterback Bryce Young. Prediction: Alabama 38, Kansas State 21
