Kentucky football’s offense struggles as they lose to Iowa
In a very boring Music City Bowl, Iowa beat Kentucky football, 21-0. Only one offensive touchdown was scored in this game. During the game, Tom Forrnelli was keeping track of the number of punts in the game. In the game, 75 percent of drives ended with a punt.
The first touchdown of the game happened in the second quarter off two big plays for the Iowa offense. In true Iowa fashion, the big play of the drive came off a screen pass to Sam Laporta to put the Hawkeyes in the red zone. They would finish the drive with a touchdown on their next play with a 15-yard pass to Luke Lachey. The Sickos Committee correctly expressed everyone’s emotions by tweeting their reaction to the touchdown.
In what was a very boring game, the scoring drought had been finally broken in the second quarter by Iowa. Destin Wade’s next pass for Kentucky would be intercepted, as Xavier Nwankpa read Wade and took it back to the house for a six. The score was 14-0 and honestly, that was pretty much it.
Wade would throw another interception and Cooper Dejean would take his interception back to a score before the end of the half. The rest of the game was basically just punts by both sides. Kentucky ended up with less than 190 total offensive yards for the entire game. Destin Wade struggled in his first start after Will Levis rightfully declared for the draft.
Kentucky football falls to Iowa in Music City Bowl
This is a very hard defense to play against in your first start. Iowa football is a program that is easily made fun of for its lack of offense (and rightfully so, changes need to happen to be clear) but Kirk Ferentz’s team had a brand this season, and they ended up with a bowl win. Yes, the offense needs massive improvements, but I feel like, at the end of the day, the entire college football world was glad Iowa existed this season.
The Kentucky Wildcats had a very disappointing season. Going into the season, they were 20th in the country, had Will Levis at QB, and were coming off a 10-win season. They ended up with 7 wins, and a loss in the Music City Bowl. Due to multiple issues, including play-calling and the offense line, the Wildcats’ offense struggled this season.
Kentucky football had high expectations going into this season, but as already stated, they didn’t reach them. Going into next year, they will have transfer QB Devin Leary coming in. Leary is a very good college QB, but if the playcalling and the offensive line aren’t fixed, Mark Stoops’ squad could be facing the same result this season.
