Georgia Baseball 2023 Season Preview: LHP Jaden Woods
By Matt Melton
Having been one of Georgia baseball’s top relievers across the last two seasons, there will be few pitchers more experienced for the Bulldogs in 2023 than left-hander Jaden Woods. A multi-inning relief option who has also started games for the Bulldogs at times, what might the 2023 season have in store for Woods?
Georgia Baseball 2023 Season Preview: LHP Jaden Woods
A former in-state prospect out of Houston County High School, Woods originally emerged as an option out of the Bulldogs bullpen as a freshman in 2021, owning a 4-1 record with a 4.58 ERA and 53:24 K:BB ratio across 53 IP. Also compiling a save, Woods would make four starts for the Bulldogs as well that season, and would receive SEC All-Freshman honors at seasons end by the conference’s coaches.
As a sophomore a year ago, Woods would go on to post a similar stat line for the Bulldogs, owning a 1-1 record with a 4.64 ERA and an 80:33 K:BB ratio across 54.1 IP. Making only one start, Woods would also post a career-high three saves for the Bulldogs, along with the previously mentioned career-high in strikeouts.
Now entering his junior season, Woods, who holds a career 4.61 ERA in Athens, is likely expected to be a key piece for Georgia baseball in 2023 once again. As for what role that will be, the junior left-hander could potentially start a few games as he has the last two seasons, with Woods likely being a go-to multi-inning option in the Bulldogs bullpen once again.
Following a year of career-high’s in both strikeouts and saves, Woods could very easily top those totals in 2023 as well, as well as potentially a few other statistical categories such as ERA. Overall, expect yet another solid season from the left-hander as Woods will be a big factor for what could be a strong Georgia pitching staff.
2023 Season Prediction: 3-1, 4.15 ERA, 2 SV, 25 BB, 85 K
