SEC Football: Way-too-early power rankings for 2023 season
By Matt Melton
4. Tennessee Volunteers
Notable Players Returning:
- RB Jaylen Wright
- RB Jabari Small
- WR Bru McCoy
- QB Joe Milton
- DB Tamarion McDonald
Coming off a truly memorable season in Knoxville where Tennessee finished 11-2 overall (6-2 in SEC), the Volunteers will now look for their first back-to-back 10-win season in 2023 since the 2003-04 campaign’s. As for if that could happen, it’s certainly a possibility, with the big question surrounding Tennessee’s offseason being who takes over for Hendon Hooker atop the nation’s No. 1 scoring offense in 2022 at 46.1 PPG – the returning Joe Milton, or incoming five-star Nicholaus Iamaleava?
3. LSU Tigers
Notable Players Returning:
- QB Jayden Daniels
- WR Malik Nabers
- LB Harold Perkins
- LB Greg Penn III
- TE Mason Taylor
The defending SEC West champions, year one of the Brian Kelly era in Baton Rouge this past fall was nothing short of a success, with LSU concluding the year at 10-4 overall (6-2 in SEC). A team that will have multiple key names returning in 2023, the Tigers will have one of SEC football’s top quarterbacks in 2023 in Jayden Daniels, as well as a defense led by one of the conference’s most versatile linebackers, Harold Perkins.
