SEC Football: Way-too-early power rankings for 2023 season
By Matt Melton
2. Alabama Crimson Tide
Notable Players Returning:
- RB Jase McClellan
- WR Jermaine Burton
- WR Ja’Corey Brooks
- LB Deontae Lawson
- CB Kool-Aid McKinstry
Coming off a season in which the Crimson Tide did not make the College Football Playoff for only the second time since its’ inception back in 2014, Alabama (11-2 overall, 6-2 in SEC) could easily be set for a return trip to the CFP in 2023. Yes, the Crimson Tide do lose a few noteworthy names such as Bryce Young and Will Anderson Jr., but Alabama will once again be absolutely loaded, as numerous experienced players return on both sides of the ball, combined with the nation’s No. 1 ranked 2023 recruiting class making its’ way to Tuscaloosa.
1. Georgia Bulldogs
Notable Players Returning:
- TE Brock Bowers
- LB Smael Mondon Jr.
- LB Jamon Dumas-Johnson
- RB Daijun Edwards
- S Malaki Starks
Georgia (15-0 overall, 8-0 in SEC) claimed their second consecutive national championship during the 2022 season, and will enter the 2023 campaign among SEC football’s, as well as the nation’s, top teams once again. Headlining that 2023 roster for the Bulldogs will be one of the nation’s top returning players in tight end Brock Bowers, as well as transfer additions such as Dominic Lovett and RaRa Thomas, adding to a Bulldogs team that, even despite a few roster questions from NFL Draft-eligible players, will be loaded once again.
