Two teams among the top half of SEC basketball at the moment, Auburn is set to host Mississippi State on Saturday night inside Neville Arena. The Tigers have won the last four meetings between the two, with Mississippi State’s last win coming back during the 2018-19 season.

Auburn comes into Saturday ranked as the No. 21 team in the country according to the latest AP Poll, sitting at 13-3 overall, as well as 3-1 in SEC basketball play. The Tigers, who have yet to lose inside Neville Arena this season, have won their last two games over Arkansas and Ole Miss, as well as four of their last five dating back to late December.

Averaging 72.7 PPG, while allowing only 63.2 PPG, the Tigers also rank No. 2 nationally with an average of 6.3 BPG defensively as a team, and are led by two double-digit scorers in Wendell Green Jr. and Johni Broome. Auburn also has a few other prominent scorers such as Jaylin Williams, Allen Flanigan, and K.D. Johnson, each of which are averaging 8+ PPG.

Mississippi State however owns a 12-3 overall record at the moment, as well as a 1-2 mark in SEC basketball play. The Bulldogs have however struggled in recent weeks after beginning the season 11-0, as Mississippi State has dropped three of their last four games to Drake, Alabama, and Tennessee, but did win their most recent contest against Ole Miss, 64-54.

The Bulldogs rank No. 5 nationally in scoring defense by allowing only 56.7 PPG to opponents, while also averaging 66.9 PPG themselves, led by one of the SEC’s top frontcourt players, Tolu Smith. Smith is averaging 14.2 PPG and 7.8 RPG, and leads the Bulldogs in scoring, with others such as D.J. Jeffries, Dashawn Davis, Shakeel Moore, and Cameron Matthews also key scorers for Mississippi State.
