A player who spent a total of five seasons in Athens as an impact player for the Bulldogs, here is a look back at the collegiate career of former Georgia football wide receiver Tavarres King.

Looking back at the Georgia football career of Tavarres King

King originally came to Georgia in the Bulldogs 2008 recruiting class, where the wide receiver was rated as a four-star prospect out of in-state Habersham Central High School.

Once in Athens, King would go on to appear in four games during the 2008 season, totaling only two receptions for 66 yards. King would however enjoy a breakout season in 2009, compiling 18 receptions for 377 yards and a touchdown.

King would take yet another step forward in 2010 for the Bulldogs, emerging as one of Georgia’s top wide receivers. During that season, King would have 27 receptions across 12 games, which translated to 504 yards and three touchdowns, as well as ranking No. 6 in the SEC with an average of 18.7 YPC.

In 2011, King would see yet another jump in production as a key factor on the Bulldogs offense, and would become one of the top wideouts in the SEC because of it. That season, King would total 705 yards and eight touchdowns on 47 receptions, ranking Top 10 in the SEC in all three statistical categories – No. 7 in receptions, No. 6 in yards, and No. 3 in touchdowns – as well as No. 9 with an average of 15 YPC.

Coming off that phenomenal 2011 campaign, King would also return to Athens for a fifth-year in 2012, starring for what was one of college football’s top teams that season. King would improve stats-wise once again, totaling 42 receptions for 950 yards and nine touchdowns, ranking Top 10 in the SEC in yards and touchdowns, as well as leading the conference with an average of 22.6 YPC (also No. 3 nationally).

For his Georgia football career, King had a total of 136 receptions from 2008-12, which translated to 2,602 yards and 21 touchdowns, with his 19.1 career YPC mark also ranking No. 6 in the SEC since 1956. King would also be selected with the No. 161 overall pick in the fifth round of the 2013 NFL Draft at the conclusion of his collegiate career by the Denver Broncos.

King would go on to play in only 17 career games in the NFL from 2014-17, which came with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and New York Giants. During that span, King would have 22 receptions for 303 yards and three touchdowns.
