SEC Basketball: No. 16 Auburn continues to roll against LSU
One of four ranked SEC basketball teams, Auburn remained sharp as they won their fourth straight game over LSU, 67-49.
In a forgettable game, yet dominant performance, Auburn looked like the superior team from start to finish.
Auburn’s scoring came by committee per usual with Wendell Green Jr. and Jaylin Williams leading in scoring with 14 each. Three other players also finished with eight points.
For LSU, senior forward KJ Williams played well scoring 16 points on 7/15 shooting from the field. He is their leading scorer on the year.
But overall for LSU, they shot poorly and couldn’t get consistent offense throughout the matchup. Outside of Williams, the rest of the team shot 23% from the floor and 13% from three.
Those numbers proved to be too much to overcome as Auburn shot 44% from the field and didn’t drop the ball in any other facet of the game.
Auburn defeats LSU in SEC basketball matchup, 67-49
By the numbers:
LSU has struggled on the offensive end of the floor in the past four games, including Wednesday night. They scored 56 points. They are averaging 56.8 points per game, and even in a defensive league like the SEC, that won’t cut it.
With the win tonight, Auburn moves to 5-1 within the conference and with the loss tonight, LSU is 1-5 in the conference.
LSU never led in the game while Auburn’s largest lead was 19 points.
Looking ahead:
Auburn is 15-3 on the season and sit at third in the conference. They play South Carolina on Saturday, but looking ahead to the Texas A&M game, if both teams take care of business, then they could be deciding who moves into the second spot in the conference.
LSU is a solid basketball team, but with another SEC loss, they are at the bottom of the conference. Mississippi State is in a similar position with a 12-6 overall record but a 1-5 conference record. Unfortunately for LSU, their next two SEC games are against No. 9 Tennessee and No. 25 Arkansas.
