SEC Basketball: Arkansas smothers LSU from start to finish
Going into the Tuesday night’s SEC basketball matchup, Arkansas and LSU were only separated by one game in the win column.
But after a dominant 60-40 win, it seems like a lot more separates the Razorbacks from the Tigers.
In a 20 point victory, Arkansas never trailed, led 38-14 at halftime, and prevented any LSU players from scoring in the double digits.
The games leading scorer was Razorback guard Davonte Davis who dropped 16 points to go along with 7 rebounds. He was one of four Arkansas players to score in double figures as well as one of three to grab 7 or more boards.
For LSU, their leading scorer, KJ Williams, struggled from the field shooting just 2 for 10 and scoring only 9 points which is almost half of his average (17.8).
On the bright side for Williams, he did lead the game in rebounds with 11 and the Tigers held their own on the glass as they only had one less rebound than the Razorbacks (35 to 36).
At the end of the night, LSU had their chances but another poor offensive performance couldn’t bail out their solid play at the other end of the court.
They’ll need to figure it out with 11 games left in the regular season.
As for Arkansas, it’s another impressive win that brings them one step further to gaining some traction in the conference standings.
Arkansas defeats LSU in SEC basketball matchup, 60-40
By the numbers:
As a team, Arkansas had 15 assists on the game. That number is more than double that of LSU who only registered 6.
LSU was only 1 of 9 from beyond the arc (11.1%).
The Tigers suffered their third straight game of scoring less than 60 points and had their lowest scoring output of the season on Tuesday night.
Looking ahead:
Arkansas improves to 3-5 in the conference and 14-6 overall. Their next couple games feature No. 17 Baylor (15-5) and Texas A&M (13-6). If they can get wins against both of those teams, the Razorbacks will return to the top 25.
LSU is on a 7 game losing streak and fall to1-7 in the conference and 12-8 overall. What was once a great start for the Tigers has now turned into a disaster. They haven’t won on the road this season and the offense is averaging the 11th most points per game in the conference. To snap the losing streak and get their first win of the month, they’ll have to defeat a middle-of-the-road Texas Tech squad.
