For the latest edition of our monthly SEC basketball recruiting winners’ series, there is simply only one program to talk about from January – Mississippi State.
As to why just the Bulldogs, well, that is because Mississippi State was the lone SEC basketball program to land a commitment during the month of January, which came early on during the month.
Mississippi State headlines SEC Basketball January recruiting winners
During the month of January, Mississippi State and head coach Chris Jans landed a commitment early in the month from Jeremiah Wilkinson, who is the Bulldogs first commit of their 2024 class.
Rated as a three-star prospect according to 247Sports, Wilkinson is a 6-foot point guard out of The Skill Factory in Georgia, and held offers from multiple other collegiate programs. Included in that list of programs were SEC schools such as Florida and Ole Miss, as well as other non-conference teams such as Butler, Murray State, Saint Louis, and more.
Due to the Wilkinson commitment, Mississippi State now becomes only the fourth SEC basketball program to have at-least one commit in their 2024 class, joining the trio of Auburn, Texas A&M, and Vanderbilt. Of that group, only Auburn has more than one commitment, with the Tigers at the moment owning three to sit atop the SEC in the 2024 cycle, as well as also being one of the top classes nationally.
As for Mississippi State, Wilkinson is a player who will likely provide depth once in Starkville, and will likely be one of the overall centerpieces of the Bulldogs 2024 class. As to what role the three-star will play as a freshman, that is obviously still to be determined in the future, but it feels likely that Wilkinson is a rotation option for the Bulldogs at the least.
