SEC News: Alabama ranked No. 1, Georgia names OC

SEC fans, here are a few of the biggest headlines from across the conference on both Monday and Tuesday, which includes a new No. 1 team sitting atop the latest college basketball AP Poll, as well as Georgia naming a new offensive coordinator.
Alabama ranked No. 1 in latest college basketball AP Poll
For the first time since the 2002-03 season, Alabama was ranked as the No. 1 team nationally in the latest college basketball AP Poll released Monday. Joining the Crimson Tide as ranked teams from the SEC was also Tennessee, with the Volunteers sitting at No. 10 overall.
SEC to implement new rules for 2023 baseball season
Set to begin in the coming days, the SEC announced Tuesday that there would be a few new rules in place for the 2023 baseball season. Those changes can be found here.
Georgia OC Todd Monken named Baltimore Ravens OC
According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, Georgia offensive coordinator Todd Monken was named the new OC of the Baltimore Ravens on Tuesday. Monken had been the Bulldogs offensive coordinator since 2020, with Georgia ranking Top 10 in PPG nationally across the last two seasons:
- 2020 – 32.3 PPG (No. 38 nationally)
- 2021 – 38.6 PPG (No. 9 nationally)
- 2022 – 41.1 PPG (No. 5 nationally)
Mike Bobo named new Georgia OC
After serving as an analyst for the Bulldogs this past season, Mike Bobo was named Georgia’s new offensive coordinator on Tuesday. A familiar name to Bulldogs’ fans, Bobo is currently in his third stint in Athens, and previously served as Georgia’s OC from 2007-14.
Former Texas A&M head coach Kevin Sumlin to join Maryland staff
According to On3’s Matt Zenitz, Maryland is reportedly hiring former Texas A&M head coach Kevin Sumlin as the Terrapins tight ends coach. Sumlin was the head coach of the Aggies from 2012-17, a span in which he led Texas A&M to a combined 51-26 record, while also being named the 2012 SEC Coach of the Year.
