Similar to recent years, SEC basketball will have multiple teams participating in the 2023 NCAA Tournament in the coming weeks. However, just how many teams from the SEC will go dancing this March?

Let’s take a look at which SEC basketball teams will likely be playing in the NCAA Tournament this year, and what others might potentially join that group in the next couple of weeks.

How many SEC basketball teams will make the 2023 NCAA Tournament?

To have this conversation, let’s begin with the SEC’s two 100% locks to go dancing this March – Alabama and Tennessee.

Alabama, who is ranked as the nation’s No. 1 team at the moment, is currently projected to be a one-seed come March, and even has a case to be made as the No. 1 overall seed. Tennessee, who recently upset Alabama on Wednesday, is likely to go dancing as either a two-or-three seed at the moment, and will easily secure that with a strong finish to the regular season.

As for the remaining SEC teams however, the conference could still place multiple other teams in the NCAA Tournament, but each will likely have to finish the regular season strong in order to go dancing.

Included in that group are teams such as Texas A&M, Arkansas, Auburn, and Missouri, along with others such as Mississippi State, Kentucky, and Florida also potentially in the mix on the bubble. As mentioned previously however, each certainly has work to do in the coming weeks, with the margin for error certainly slim for groups such as Mississippi State and Kentucky in particular.

It’s certainly already clear that SEC basketball is likely to have multiple teams make the 2023 NCAA Tournament, with ESPN’s Joe Lunardi currently projecting the conference to send seven teams dancing. If that were to happen as well, which SEC team do you think is capable of making the deepest run in this year’s NCAA Tournament?
