Auburn Basketball: Tigers 2024 recruiting class could be among nation’s best
By Matt Melton
If you have been paying attention to the 2024 college basketball recruiting cycle, one thing that you will likely notice is the success of Auburn basketball, who currently has one of the nation’s top classes.
Currently holding three total commitments, Auburn’s 2024 class ranks No. 3 nationally according to the 247Sports Team Rankings, while also sitting atop the SEC.
Now yes, the Tigers do have more commitments than a majority of teams across the country, which in turn, has led to them being ranked that high. However, there is reason to believe that Auburn’s 2024 class will remain that high throughout the entire cycle, which is attributed to the caliber of talent that they have landed so far.
Auburn Basketball’s 2024 recruiting class could be among the nation’s best
Of those three commits, the biggest name is likely that of Tahaad Pettiford, a five-star prospect out of Hudson Catholic in New Jersey who is one of the highest-rated commits in Auburn history. At 6-foot-1, Pettiford is easily in the conversation for the top point guard in the 2024 class, and is certain to be a day one major impact player for the Tigers, similar to the only two previous Auburn recruits rated higher than him in recent years – Jabari Smith and Sharife Cooper.
Joining Pettiford in the Tigers class are two other names in Labaron Philon and Peyton Marshall as well, both of which are rated as four-star prospects.
Philon is considered as Alabama’s top player in the 2024 class out of Baker High School, and could very easily end up being a five-star by the time he joins the Tigers. At 6-foot-4, Philon could also be a day one contributor at Auburn as a freshman as well, and is a pure scorer who averaged 35 PPG this past season as a junior.
As for Marshall, the 6-foot-11 center out of Kell High School is likely the next impact player that the Tigers have landed from the state of Georgia. Marshall is also going to be a player that is hard to not put on the court as a freshman, and is likely going to be a highly-rated four-star when he eventually steps foot on campus.
Regardless of whether or not they add anyone else to this group as well, Auburn’s 2024 class already has all the makings to end up being one of the best in program history, as well as among the tops of all college basketball.
