The 2023 SEC Tournament officially tips off Wednesday night in Nashville with a pair of games, the first of which features South Carolina facing off against Ole Miss. The Gamecocks and Rebels split both matchups during the regular season, with the road team winning each game.

Beginning with South Carolina, the Gamecocks are the No. 12 seed in the 2023 SEC Tournament, coming off a regular season in which they finished 11-20 overall, as well as 4-14 in the SEC. Led by head coach Lamont Paris, the Gamecocks are coming off a 61-55 home win over Georgia to conclude the regular season, and will have to win the 2023 SEC Tournament to make the NCAA Tournament.

Averaging 64.5 PPG offensively, while also allowing 72.8 PPG defensively, the Gamecocks are led by one of the SEC’s top freshmen in GG Jackson, who is averaging 15.1 PPG. The Gamecocks also have two other double-digit scorers in Meechie Johnson and Hayden Brown, with Chico Carter Jr., Jacobi Wright, and Josh Gray among the additional names to know.

Ole Miss is the No. 13 seed in the 2023 SEC Tournament, and is coming off a regular season in which they also finished with an 11-20 overall record, as well as 3-15 in the SEC. Led by interim coach Win Case, the Rebels come to Nashville on a two-game losing streak, and will also have to win the 2023 SEC Tournament to make the NCAA Tournament.

The Rebels are currently averaging 67.9 PPG offensively, while allowing 69.3 PPG to opponents, and are led by guard Matthew Murrell at 14.9 PPG. Ole Miss has one other player averaging in double figures in forward Jaemyn Brakefield, while others such as Myles Burns, Amaree Abram, TJ Caldwell, Jayveous McKinnis, and Robert Allen are all names to know.

South Carolina vs Ole Miss 2023 SEC Tournament Prediction

Having split the two prior meetings, you could make the argument that this third matchup is a toss up going into Wednesday. However, I’ll say that South Carolina comes away with a close win, in part due to a big game from star freshman GG Jackson. Prediction: South Carolina 68, Ole Miss 64
