After defeating South Carolina on Wednesday night, Ole Miss is moving on to the second round of the 2023 SEC Tournament where they will face Tennessee. The Volunteers and Rebels played only once earlier this season back on December 28, a game in which Tennessee won, 63-59, in Oxford.

Tennessee comes into the 2023 SEC Tournament as the conference’s No. 5 seed, coming off a 22-9 regular season that also included an 11-7 mark in SEC play. Led by head coach Rick Barnes, the Volunteers dropped their most recent contest this past Saturday at Auburn, 79-70, and are at the moment projected as a No. 3 seed in the upcoming NCAA Tournament according to ESPN’s Joe Lunardi.

The Volunteers currently rank third-fewest in college basketball with 57.5 PPG allowed, while also averaging 71.9 PPG themselves, as well as ranking No. 9 nationally in both offensive rebounding and assists per game. Leading the Volunteers are three double-digit scorers in Santiago Vescovi, Olivier Nkamhoua, and Josiah-Jordan James, while Julian Phillips and Tyreke Key are also names to know for Tennessee.

As for Ole Miss, the Rebels, as mentioned previously, advanced to the second round of the 2023 SEC Tournament on Wednesday night with a 67-61 win over South Carolina. The Rebels, who are the No. 13 overall seed in the SEC Tournament, now sit at 12-20 overall this season.

For the season, the Rebels are averaging 67.9 PPG offensively, while also allowing 69.3 PPG to opponents, and have two double-digit scorers in Matthew Murrell and Jaemyn Brakefield. Ole Miss also has two other prominent scorers in Myles Burns and Amaree Abram, while Robert Allen is also a key name to know in the frontcourt.

Tennessee vs Ole Miss 2023 SEC Tournament Prediction

While the Rebels did pick up a big win Wednesday night in the first round, the pick here is Tennessee, even without the Volunteers having guard Zakai Zeigler. I’ll say that Tennessee eventually pulls away in the second half, and moves on to the quarterfinals for an intriguing matchup against Missouri. Prediction: Tennessee 76, Ole Miss 63
