Kentucky vs Vanderbilt: Line, Prediction, TV Channel & Live Stream for 2023 SEC Tournament
By Matt Melton
A team attempting to play their way into the NCAA Tournament, Vanderbilt is set to take on the Kentucky Wildcats on Friday night in the quarterfinal round of the 2023 SEC Tournament. The two teams played twice during the 2022-23 regular season, with the road team winning both matchups.
Led by head coach John Calipari, the Wildcats come to Nashville as the No. 3 seed in this week’s SEC Tournament, while also owning a 21-10 overall record, as well as a 12-6 mark in SEC play. Kentucky is also projected as a five-seed in the upcoming NCAA Tournament according to ESPN’s Joe Lunardi, and have won five of their last six games dating back to February 15.
Kentucky is currently averaging 75.1 PPG, while also allowing 67.6 PPG, and are led by one of the SEC’s top overall players in Oscar Tshiebwe, who is averaging a double-double at 16.4 PPG and 13.1 RPG. The Wildcats are also the nation’s No. 8 team in offensive rebounding by averaging 13.4 per game, and also have three others averaging in double-digits with Antonio Reeves, Jacob Toppin, and Cason Wallace.
As for Vanderbilt, the Commodores continued their push toward a potential NCAA Tournament bid Thursday night with a 77-68 win over LSU. With the win, the Commodores have now won nine of their last 10 games, along with Vanderbilt’s record now sitting at 19-13 overall.
Vanderbilt is currently averaging 72 PPG for the season, and have two players averaging in double figures with Tyrin Lawrence and Jordan Wright. The Commodores are also allowing 71.7 PPG to opponents, and have a few other key scorers to know such as Ezra Manjon, Myles Stute, and Trey Thomas.
Kentucky vs Vanderbilt 2023 SEC Tournament Prediction
While the Commodores have certainly impressed in recent weeks, the pick to come away with the win here goes to Kentucky. I’ll say that the Wildcats get a big game inside from Tshiebwe, and use a late run in the second half to ultimately pull away, as well as secure a matchup with either Texas A&M or Arkansas in the semifinals on Saturday. Prediction: Kentucky 77, Vanderbilt 71
