One of the most anticipated quarterfinal matchups at the 2023 SEC Tournament will take place Friday afternoon as Missouri and Tennessee face off between the conference’s No. 4-5 seeds. The Tigers and Volunteers met only once during the 2022-23 regular season back on February 11, a game win which Missouri won 86-85 in Knoxville on a buzzer-beater at the end of regulation.

Missouri, led by head coach Dennis Gates, enters the 2023 SEC Tournament as the conference’s No. 4 overall seed, owning a 23-8 overall record, as well as an 11-7 mark in SEC play. The Tigers are also one of the conference’s hottest teams having won four-straight entering the week, and are currently considered as an eight-seed in the upcoming NCAA Tournament according to ESPN’s Joe Lunardi.

The Tigers are one of the SEC’s top offensive teams averaging 80.1 PPG, while also ranking No. 3 nationally in SPG with 10.5, as well as holding a combined 56.4 2P% as a team, which ranks No. 12 nationally. Also allowing 74.8 PPG, the Tigers are led by the 2022-23 SEC Scholar-Athlete of the Year Kobe Brown, while also having multiple other key scorers such as D’Moi Hodge, DeAndre Gholston, Isiaih Mosley, Noah Carter, Nick Honor, and Sean East.

Tennessee advanced to the SEC Tournament quarterfinal round with a 70-55 win over Ole Miss, a game in which the Volunteers never trailed in the second half. With the win, Tennessee’s record for the season now sits at 23-9 overall.

The Volunteers defensively are the nation’s No. 3 scoring team allowing only 57.5 PPG, while also averaging 71.9 PPG themselves led by three double-digit scorers in Santiago Vescovi, Olivier Nkamhoua, and Josiah-Jordan James. Julian Phillips and Tyreke Key are also prominent scorers for the Volunteers, while Tennessee is also a Top 10 team nationally in both offensive rebounds and assists per game.

Missouri vs Tennessee 2023 SEC Tournament Prediction

Out of all four games Friday at the 2023 SEC Tournament, this matchup between Missouri and Tennessee has the potential to be the best. As to who wins, I’ll say that Tennessee avenges their loss from earlier this season, and wins a close game inside Bridgestone Arena. Prediction: Missouri 74, Tennessee 78
