Selection Sunday has now officially passed, meaning that we now know the SEC basketball teams who will be playing in the 2023 NCAA Tournament in the coming days. So, the only questions left to answer are, which SEC teams made the NCAA Tournament, who will each be playing in the first round, and when?
Who does each SEC basketball team play in the NCAA Tournament?
Alabama Crimson Tide
The 2022-23 SEC regular season and tournament champions, Alabama is the No. 1 overall seed in the 2023 NCAA Tournament, and will face the winner of the No. 16 seed matchup in the South Region between Texas A&M-CC and Southeast Missouri State in the Round of 64. Playing in Birmingham, AL, the Crimson Tide will face the winner of No. 8 Maryland and No. 9 West Virginia should they advance to the Round of 32.
Tennessee Volunteers
Tennessee is a No. 4 seed in the East Region of the 2023 NCAA Tournament bracket, and will face No. 13 seed Louisiana in Orlando, FL during the Round of 64. Should they win, Tennessee will then face the winner of No. 5 Duke and No. 12 Oral Roberts in the Round of 32.
Kentucky Wildcats
The Wildcats are a No. 6 seed in the NCAA Tournament, playing against No. 11 seed Providence in the Round of 64 from Greensboro, NC. If Kentucky wins, the Wildcats would advance to the Round of 32 in the East Region against the winner of No. 3 Kansas State and No. 14 Montana State.
Texas A&M Aggies
The Aggies are the No. 7 seed in the Midwest Region, squaring off against No. 10 seed Penn State in the Round of 64. Taking place in Des Moines, IA, the Aggies would then face the winner of No. 2 seed Texas and No. 15 seed Colgate should they win.
Missouri Tigers
Similar to Texas A&M, Missouri is also a No. 7 seed in the NCAA Tournament, one who will face No. 10 seed Utah State in the Round of 64 in the South Region. Playing in Sacramento, CA, the winner would then face the victor of No. 2 seed Arizona and No. 15 seed Princeton in the Round of 32.
Arkansas Razorbacks
The Razorbacks are the No. 8 seed in the West Region, and will face No. 9 seed Illinois from Des Moines, IA in the Round of 64. Should they win, Arkansas would then face the winner of No. 1 seed Kansas and No. 16 seed Howard.
Auburn Tigers
Auburn is the SEC’s lone No. 9 seed in the 2023 NCAA Tournament, as the Tigers will face No. 8 seed Iowa in Birmingham, AL. Playing in the Midwest Region, Auburn would then face the winner of No. 1 seed Houston and No. 16 seed Northern Kentucky should they win.
Mississippi State Bulldogs
The SEC’s final team in the NCAA Tournament, Mississippi State will be playing in the First Four as a No. 11 seed against fellow No. 11 seed Pittsburgh in Dayton, OH. Should they win, the Bulldogs would face No. 6 seed Iowa State in the Round of 64 in the Midwest Region.
