After securing an impressive first round win Thursday afternoon, Missouri now advances to the Round of 32 where the Tigers will meet Princeton. The two teams have met only once all-time, with Missouri having picked up a 51-48 win back in 1999.
Beginning with head coach Dennis Gates and Missouri, the Tigers secured their first Round of 32 appearance in the NCAA Tournament since the 2012-13 season Thursday with a first round win over No. 10 seed Utah State, defeating the Aggies, 76-65. The Tigers, who are a No. 7 seed in this year’s Big Dance, now sit at 25-9 overall this season.
The nation’s No. 3 team in SPG at 10.3, the Tigers are currently averaging 79.5 PPG on offense, as well as allowing 74.6 PPG defensively. Missouri is led by the 2022-23 SEC Scholar-Athlete of the Year in forward Kobe Brown, and have numerous others that play key roles such as D’Moi Hodge, DeAndre Gholston, Noah Carter, Nick Honor, and more.
As for Princeton and head coach Mitch Henderson, the Tigers, who are the 2022-23 Ivy League regular season and tournament champions, pulled off a massive first round upset on Thursday, knocking off No. 2 seed Arizona by a final score of 59-55. The Tigers, who are a No. 15 seed, are now making their first Round of 32 appearance since the 2010-11 season, and now sit at 22-8 overall for the year.
The Tigers are currently averaging 76 PPG offensively, while also allowing 68.6 PPG to opponents, and are one of the nation’s elite defensive rebounding teams, ranking No. 3 with 29.1 DRPG. The Tigers also have three double-digit scorers in First Team All-Ivy League selection Tosan Evbuomwan, Ryan Langborg, and Matt Allocco, as well as others who make an impact such as Caden Pierce and Keeshawn Kellman among others.
Missouri vs Princeton 2023 NCAA Tournament Prediction
While No. 15 seed Princeton did pull off a massive upset in the first round, my pick here still goes to Missouri. I’ll say that the Tigers advance to the Sweet 16, receiving a big game from forward Kobe Brown in the process. Prediction: Missouri 76, Princeton 68
