SEC Basketball: Way-too-early power rankings for 2023-24 season
By Matt Melton
A team that was the conference’s best throughout the 2022-23 campaign, Alabama sits in the No. 1 overall spot in our way-too-early SEC basketball power rankings for the 2023-24 season.
Led by head coach Nate Oats, the Crimson Tide are coming off one of the best seasons in program history, one in which Alabama owned a 31-6 overall record, as well as a 16-2 mark in SEC play to win both the SEC regular season and tournament titles. This was also the Crimson Tide’s first 30-win season in program history, with Alabama also having made a Sweet 16 appearance for the second time in the last three years.
As for Alabama’s 2023-24 roster, the Crimson Tide have already lost SEC Player and Freshman of the Year Brandon Miller and Noah Clowney to the NBA Draft, along with guard Nimari Burnett via a transfer to Michigan, as well as both Noah Gurley and Dom Welch due to graduation. The Crimson Tide also have multiple other NBA Draft decisions to watch for in the coming weeks as well, a group that includes Jahvon Quinerly, Mark Sears, and Charles Bediako.
Alabama is also set to return a key amount of talent such as Jaden Bradley, Rylan Griffen, Nick Pringle, and Davin Cosby, as well as add multiple impact newcomers. Included in that group is Wichita State transfer Jaykwon Walton, as well as one of SEC basketball’s top recruiting classes featuring four-star’s Sam Walters, Kris Parker, and Mouhamed Dioubate.
A team that could be one of the SEC’s more intriguing to follow this offseason based on potential roster movement, Alabama will still have all the pieces needed to be one of the conference’s best in 2023-24. The question is, just how good could the 2023-24 Crimson Tide be?
