SEC Basketball: Way-too-early power rankings for 2023-24 season
By Matt Melton
Coming in at No. 4 is Kentucky and head coach John Calipari, with the Wildcats set to bring a near brand new looking, but very talented, roster as we enter next season.
The Wildcats are coming off their second consecutive 20+ win season, finishing the year with a 22-12 overall record, as well as a 12-6 mark in SEC play. Also included in that 2022-23 season was Kentucky’s second-straight NCAA Tournament appearance, one in which the Wildcats reached the second round.
A team that could be active in the transfer portal this offseason, Kentucky’s biggest name set to return is likely that of Chris Livingston, while a few others could return as well. The Wildcats are also set to bring in the nation’s No. 1 overall 2023 recruiting class, a group that includes multiple impact names for Kentucky next season.
One of the Wildcats most-talented recruiting classes in recent years, Kentucky has four five-star prospects set to take the court in Lexington next season with Justin Edwards, DJ Wagner, Aaron Bradshaw, and Robert Dillingham, each of which are Top 10 players in the 2023 class. Kentucky also has a very-highly rated four-star in that class in Reed Sheppard, who should also play a key role next season.
A team that will be loaded with talent, don’t be surprised if Kentucky contends for an SEC title next season, and is one of the conference’s top teams from the start.
