SEC News: Alabama hires assistant coach, Stewart commits to LSU

SEC fans, here are a couple of things that you need to know from across the conference Monday and Tuesday, which features Alabama basketball hiring an assistant coach, LSU adding a transfer commitment, and more.
Ole Miss G Daeshun Ruffin enters transfer portal
A former four-star prospect in the 2021 class, Ole Miss guard Daeshun Ruffin entered the transfer portal Monday after two seasons in Oxford. Ruffin started in 2-of-11 games for Ole Miss this past season, averaging 9.5 PPG and 3.2 APG.
Auburn G Chance Westry transfers to Syracuse
After one season with the Tigers, Auburn guard Chance Westry, who is a former four-star prospect in the 2022 class, transferred to Syracuse on Monday. Westry appeared in 11 games off the Tigers bench this past season, averaging 2.5 PPG.
Alabama hires Austin Claunch as assistant coach
Alabama basketball announced the hire of Austin Claunch on Tuesday as an assistant coach, filling one of the Crimson Tide’s three openings. Claunch comes to Tuscaloosa after five seasons as the head coach at Nicholls State, a span in which he held a 90-61 overall record with two Southland conference regular season championships, while also having won the 2020-21 Southland Coach of the Year.
Santa Clara transfer G Carlos Stewart commits to LSU
LSU added a basketball commitment via the transfer portal Tuesday afternoon from Santa Clara guard Carlos Stewart. A career 10.3 PPG scorer, Stewart started in all 33 games for Santa Clara a year ago, averaging 15.2 PPG, 2.4 RPG, 2.3 APG, and 1.8 SPG to be named First Team All-WCC, while also shooting 40.3% from three, as well as 83.2% from the free throw line.
Boston College transfer DB Josh DeBerry commits to Texas A&M
Texas A&M landed a football commitment via the transfer portal on Tuesday afternoon from Josh DeBerry, a defensive back, who transfers to College Station after four seasons at Boston College. DeBerry had 50 tackles for Boston College a year ago, along with four PD, 3.5 TFL, an interception, and a fumble recovery.
