SEC News: Ali names Top 8, Wrightsell commits to Alabama

SEC fans, here are a few of the top headlines across the conference from Sunday and Monday, which includes Amier Ali releasing his top eight, Alabama landing a transfer commitment, and more.

Cal State Fullerton transfer G Latrell Wrightsell commits to Alabama

Alabama basketball landed their third transfer commitment of the offseason Sunday in Cal State Fullerton guard Latrell Wrightsell, who joins both Jaykwon Walton and Aaron Estrada. Wrightsell started in 29-of-30 games this past season, averaging 16.3 PPG, 4.5 RPG, 2.4 APG, and 1.5 SPG on 38.3% shooting from three, as well as 81.3% from the free throw line to earn First Team All-Big West honors.

North Texas TE Var’Keyes Gumms commits to Arkansas

Arkansas landed a football commitment via the transfer portal Sunday from North Texas tight end Var’Keyes Gumms. Gumms had 34 receptions for 458 yards and five touchdowns during the 2022 season at North Texas.

Georgia transfer DL Bear Alexander commits to USC

One of the top overall names in the transfer portal, Georgia defensive lineman Bear Alexander committed to USC on Sunday. Alexander, a former four-star prospect from the 2022 class, had nine tackles, three TFL, and two sacks as a freshman a year ago at Georgia.

Vanderbilt G Tyrin Lawrence enters transfer portal

After having a breakout 2022-23 campaign in what was his third season with the Commodores, Vanderbilt guard Tyrin Lawrence entered the transfer portal Monday. Lawrence started in 34-of-36 games this past season, averaging 13.1 PPG and 4.4 RPG on 36% shooting from three.

4-star CB Silas Demary Jr. commits to Georgia

Georgia basketball landed the third commitment of their 2023 class Monday in Silas Demary Jr., who is a former USC commit. A four-star combo guard, Demary is one of the top players in the state of North Carolina, attending Combine Academy.

3 SEC teams included in Top 8 for four-star SF Amier Ali

A highly-rated four-star prospect in the 2024 class, Amier Ali announced his top eight on Monday, with Alabama, Arkansas, and Kentucky being the lone SEC teams, joined by Arizona State, Florida State, Michigan, Ohio State, and Texas. Ali, a small forward, attends IMG Academy in Florida.
