SEC Football: Post-spring prediction for each team’s 2023 Week 1 starting quarterback
By Matt Melton
Florida Gators – Graham Mertz
Another noteworthy SEC football quarterback competition, the pick coming out of spring for the Florida starting job goes to Mertz taking the field in week one. However, similar to Alabama and Auburn previously, this job is likely close between Mertz, a Wisconsin transfer, and the returning Jack Miller III.
Georgia Bulldogs – Carson Beck
Yet another prominent SEC football quarterback competition comes at Georgia, where the two-time defending national champions are tasked with replacing multi-year starter Stetson Bennett. As for a prediction who that will be post-spring, it feels like the job is Beck’s to lose entering the fall over the likes of Brock Vandagriff and Gunner Stockton.
Kentucky Wildcats – Devin Leary
Even despite Kentucky tasked with replacing two-year starter Will Levis, the Wildcats starter as we enter the season is likely already known in Devin Leary, a transfer from NC State, who is also one of the conference’s top transfer additions so far this offseason.
LSU Tigers – Jayden Daniels
Similar to Arkansas previously, LSU’s starting quarterback once again this season will be Daniels, who is entering his second year in Baton Rouge, the first of which he helped lead the Tigers to the SEC Championship Game.
