Way-Too-Early 2024 NFL Draft: 5 SEC players who could be Top 10 picks
By Matt Melton
With the 2023 NFL Draft having now officially come to a close, let’s turn our attention to the 2024 NFL Draft, and take a way-too-early look at five potential SEC players who could be selected in the Top 10 overall picks next year.
5 SEC players who could be Top 10 picks in 2024 NFL Draft
Georgia TE Brock Bowers
We begin with Bowers, a generational-type talent at tight end, who has dominated the SEC across each of the last two seasons at Georgia. The 2022 John Mackey Award winner, Bowers has posted a stat line of 119 receptions for 1,824 yards and 24 total touchdowns across the last two seasons combined, and has seemingly already wrapped up the TE1 label in the 2024 NFL Draft even before the start of his junior season in Athens.
Alabama OLB Dallas Turner
Alabama had an outside linebacker selected No. 3 overall in the 2023 NFL Draft in Will Anderson Jr., and could very easily have the top edge rusher in the 2024 draft as well in Turner. Turner has also impressed across the last two seasons with the Crimson Tide, compiling a combined 67 tackles, 18 TFL, and 12.5 sacks as the starter on the opposite side of Anderson on Alabama’s defensive line.
Alabama CB Kool-Aid McKinstry
The second Alabama player who go within the Top 10 next year is McKinstry, a name that should be in the conversation for the top cornerback in the 2024 NFL Draft. McKinstry has been a starter across both of his seasons in Tuscaloosa so far, compiling a combined 61 tackles, while also being one of the SEC’s top punt returners a year ago.
Alabama OT JC Latham
Yet another Alabama player who could potentially go Top 10 in the 2024 NFL Draft is Latham, who should be in the conversation for the top offensive tackle in next year’s draft. Latham is a former top five overall recruit in the 2021 class, and has certainly impressed on Alabama’s offensive line across the last two seasons.
LSU DT Maason Smith
One of the more intriguing draft prospects to follow this upcoming fall will be Smith, who returns for LSU after missing almost all of the 2022 season due to injury. Smith, a former five-star out of high school, could be one of the top defensive tackles taken next year, especially if he has a big 2023 season for LSU.
