After selecting quarterback Kenny Pickett in 2022 and running back Najee Harris the year prior in 2021, the Steelers knew they needed to give those two some added support. Both lacked help from a weak offensive line that needed youth and power. Understanding this, General Manager Omar Khan went out and selected two monster-sized Georgia Bulldogs.

Broderick Jones

Back-to-back National Champion Broderick Jones is far from a finished product as a lineman. He has tremendous size, speed, and power; the tools are there for him to be one of the elite offensive tackles not only in this draft class, but the entire league. Now, the environment is there for him as well to propel to this next level. Mike Tomlin and company have drafted themselves a tackle who moves like a pass catcher when asked to move into the open field as a blocker. All of these intangibles led the Steelers to trade up in the first round to snag their desired tackle who didn’t allow a sack at UGA in 2022. He is a force to be reckoned with and gives this team help at a position they desperately needed.

Darnell Washington

You don’t need to listen to Mel Kiper Jr. to understand that this was the best player available for the Steelers at pick #93. Darnell Washington is a man amongst boys on a football field. One thing coaches can’t teach is size, and Washington has it. At 6’7 and 264 pounds, he can help this team in a variety of ways. As stated earlier, Pittsburgh needs and has expressed the desire to add more high-level blockers on their offensive line. A nice way to help the offensive line is to bring in a beast of a tight end to help secure the edge. Washington featured plenty as a blocker for UGA these past few seasons and impacted the game dramatically. Additionally, he poses as a massive red zone target who can go up and get any fade throw you give him the end zone.

The Pittsburgh Steelers have a lot to be excited for from these two dawgs, and both have the ability to make an instant impact on this team as they look to get back into the playoffs in 2023.
