A player who came to Tuscaloosa a year ago as one of the highest-rated commitments in Alabama program history, Brandon Miller simply turned in a sensational 2022-23 freshman season during his lone year with the Crimson Tide. A year in which he was not only one of the SEC’s top players, but one of the best in all of college basketball, where will Miller now be selected in the upcoming 2023 NBA Draft?

SEC Basketball 2023 NBA Draft Preview: Alabama F Brandon Miller

As mentioned previously, Miller is one of the highest-rated commitments in Alabama basketball program history, coming to Tuscaloosa as a member of the Crimson Tide’s 2022 recruiting class. The headline name in a class that ranked top five nationally, Miller was considered as a five-star prospect out of Cane Ridge High School in Tennessee where he was the state’s top player, as well as ranking No. 14 overall nationally according to the 247Sports Composite.

Spending only one season in Tuscaloosa, Miller would be one of the nation’s top players this past year, averaging 18.8 PPG, 8.2 RPG, and 2.1 APG, while also shooting 38.4% from three, as well as 85.9% from the free throw line, both of which ranked second in the SEC. Starting in all 37 games for the Crimson Tide, Miller would also lead the SEC in multiple statistical categories that included PPG, field goals (222), three-point field goals (106), win shares (7.0), and box plus/minus (12), among others.

As a result of his freshman season at Alabama, Miller would also receive numerous honors that included Second Team Consensus All-American, NABC and USBWA Freshman of the Year, SEC Player and Freshman of the Year, SEC All-Tournament Team, SEC Tournament MVP, and more.

Strengths

Miller likely enters the 2023 NBA Draft as one of the top prospects available, and rightfully so. At 6-foot-9, 200 pounds, Miller simply has everything that you could possibly want from a player of that size entering the NBA, both offensively and defensively.

As for a few individual strengths of Miller, the Alabama freshman has the ability to create his own shot from essentially any spot on the floor, and showed the ability to knock down those shots, especially from long distance, during the 2022-23 season shooting 38.4% from three. Miller also showed this past season that he excels at getting to, and then finishing, around the rim, and is a truly elite free throw shooter as well, having shot 85.9% from the line for the Crimson Tide.

Question Marks

When looking at Miller’s game, there simply aren’t many question marks that come to mind. The 6-foot-9 forward is a near complete prospect entering the NBA, one who could simply have as much potential and upside as any player from the SEC available in the 2023 NBA Draft.

Potential Draft Range

As for when Miller is likely to be selected in the 2023 NBA Draft, the former five-star has arguably cemented himself as a top five overall pick, if not top within the top three. While likely not the No. 1 overall pick either, Miller could certainly come off the board as early as No. 2, if not be selected very shortly after.

Draft Prediction

Miller will be selected with either the No. 2 or No. 3 overall pick in the 2023 NBA Draft.
