Jalen Milroe

Milroe is a redshirt sophomore who has the most experience of the bunch (from spring ball), despite starting just one game in his career.

In his one career start, coming last year against Texas A&M, Milroe went 12 for 19 (63.2%) for 111 yards, 3 touchdowns, and one interception while adding 88 yards on the ground.

He also held down the fort against Arkansas the week prior when Heisman Trophy winner Bryce Young went down with a shoulder injury.

In that matchup, Milroe had 91 yards rushing and 2 touchdowns (one passing). He has 6 total touchdowns for his career.

Milroe contains a great amount of upside due to his running ability.

Standing at 6-foot-2-inches tall, and weighing in at 240 pounds; Milroe is a force on the ground having already accounted for 320 rushing yards (6.95 per attempt) in his career.

That dual-threat nature is enticing when you consider Alabama football’s likelihood to rely on the run game next season. It adds another wrinkle to an offense that will need something like that.

Now after all of this, you might think, why hasn’t he won the job?

Well, for Milroe, it’s clear that he can lead the team into battle when everything is going right, as seen against Texas A&M.

But he hasn’t seemed to separate himself from the pack like the Tide coaching staff may have hoped.

The spring game was a mixed bag for Milroe.

He completed just 51% of his passes while accounting for 2 interceptions on the day. But also had 3 total touchdowns including a 35-yard touchdown run in the opening quarter.

In total, he threw for 245 yards (most from the quarterbacks) but was also sacked 7 times, some of which come with being a dual-threat quarterback.

Overall, he’ll need to clean it up over the next few months if he wants to be the opening day starter in August.
