Two Teams That Will Go Over on Win Totals

With College Football preseason in full swing, sportsbooks are releasing their over/under win totals for the upcoming season. Let’s take a look at which SEC Football teams you should be keeping your eye on to go to over their respective win totals.

SEC Football: Teams to Bet the Over on Win Totals in 2023

South Carolina Gamecocks

The Gamecocks are currently listed on FanDuel with an over/under win total of 6.5 wins with the over being +116 and the under being -142. Head Coach Shane Beamer has overachieved in his only two seasons in South Carolina, leading the team to the over in each of the past two seasons.

Spencer Rattler returns with another year to learn the offense and expand on his skillset from the previous year where he showed flashes of what he can be against Tennessee to spoil their playoff hopes late in November. South Carolina also added 10 players via the transfer portal, three of which are rated as 4-star prospects per 247sports.

The schedule sets up nicely for the Gamecocks as they start off with a neutral site game in Charlotte, NC against the North Carolina Tar Heels, followed by a home game against Furman University. Then it is time to pack up and head to Athens to face off against the reigning back-to-back national champion Georgia Bulldogs.

Once back in Columbia, they will play host to the Mississippi State Bulldogs before traveling to Knoxville to face off against the Tennessee Volunteers where Rattler will try to repeat his performance from last season. The Gamecocks enter their bye week following their trip to Knoxville.

Coming out of the bye week, South Carolina will host the Florida Gators where they will have a clear roster advantage with the Gators quarterback concerns. After this short home stand, the Gamecocks travel to Missouri followed by Texas A&M.

The next three home games against Jacksonville State University, Vanderbilt, and Kentucky will help bolster confidence leading up to the rematch of the big in-state rivalry with Clemson. The Gamecocks went on the road last year and beat Clemson in stunning fashion 31-30. They get to play host to long-time “big brother” Clemson this year and you better believe Williams-Brice Stadium will be rocking.

Vanderbilt Commodores

Vanderbilt is currently listed with an over/under win total of 3.5 wins and the over is heavily juiced at -170 with the under listed at +138 on FanDuel. The Commodores overachieved last year under head coach Clark Lea achieving a 5-7 record just missing bowl eligibility.

Vanderbilt does not have a murderers’ row of a schedule by SEC football standards and could very easily hit the over before we get to October. The fact that Vanderbilt’s schedule is so backloaded helps them greatly in terms of attrition and overall team confidence.

They open the season in week zero against the Hawaii Rainbow Warriors at home followed by another home game against Alabama A&M. Then it’s time for the first test of the schedule with a road trip to Wake Forest who lost starting quarterback Sam Hartman to Notre Dame via the transfer portal.

The Commodores then travel to the University of Nevada at Las Vegas followed by home games against Kentucky and Missouri. Vanderbilt then gets to travel to the University of Florida to play the Gators who were beaten by the Commodores in Nashville last season. Returning home to play Georgia will be no easy task but at least that gets them into their first bye week, remember they get two because they are playing in week zero.

Following the week of practice they go on the road to play Ole Miss, come back home to host Auburn, and travel to South Carolina before they reach their second bye week leading up to the in-state rivalry game against the Tennessee Volunteers.

Vanderbilt could very well be playing in a bowl game this season and qualify for it before they hit their bye week. If you are looking for better odds than -170 on over 3.5 wins and are confident that Vanderbilt makes a bowl game, you should wait until the line moves and the total jumps to 4.0 or 4.5 wins.
