SEC Baseball: Crews, Skenes headline 2023 individual awards

With the regular season having now concluded, the winners of the 2023 SEC Baseball individual awards were officially announced Monday afternoon. Let’s take a look at the winners of each, as well as the All-SEC teams.

Crews, Skenes headline 2023 SEC Baseball individual awards

SEC Player of the Year – OF Dylan Crews, LSU Tigers

After finishing last season as the SEC Co-Player of the Year, LSU outfielder Dylan Crews took home the honor outright this year. Crews, who is likely the No. 1 overall pick in the upcoming 2023 MLB Draft, was LSU’s top hitter across 55 games this season this season, slashing .423/.573/.716 with 14 HR, 57 RBI, and five SB, while also leading the Tigers in AVG, hits, and OBP, as well as posting a perfect fielding percentage defensively.

SEC Pitcher of the Year – RHP Paul Skenes, LSU Tigers

The SEC’s Pitcher of the Year also comes from the Tigers, as LSU right-handed pitcher Paul Skenes ran away with the honor this season. After transferring from Air Force, Skenes has made 14 starts this year as the Tigers Friday night starter, owning a 10-1 record with a 1.77 ERA and 164:15 K:BB ratio across 86.2 IP, while also holding opponents to a combined .161 AVG against.

SEC Freshman of the Year – 1B/OF Charlie Condon, Georgia Bulldogs

After redshirting a year ago, Georgia first baseman/outfielder Charlie Condon took home honors for SEC Baseball Freshman of the Year this season. Condon has been Georgia’s top hitter this season across 55 games, slashing .393/.492/.816 with 24 HR and 67 RBI, while also leading the Bulldogs in almost all offensive statistical categories.

SEC Coach of the Year – Dave Van Horn, Arkansas Razorbacks

After leading the Razorbacks to a 39-15 overall record, as well as a 20-10 mark in conference play to be named SEC regular season co-champions, Arkansas’ Dave Van Horn has won the SEC Coach of the Year.

SEC Scholar-Athlete of the Year – OF Andrew Pinckney, Alabama Crimson Tide and OF Ben Anderson, Georgia Bulldogs

The SEC Scholar-Athlete of the Year was split between two players in Alabama outfielder Andrew Pinckney and Georgia outfielder Ben Anderson, who also took home the honor last season. Across 55 games this season, Pinckney has slashed .347/.446/.643 with 15 HR, 49 RBI, and six SB, while Anderson has slashed .282/.373/.440 across 54 games with five HR, 28 RBI, and eight SB.
