SEC Football: Possible Contenders For The Heisman Trophy In 2023
Last college football season Caleb Williams, USC Trojans quarterback, won the 2022 Heisman Trophy. It was well deserved after the year Williams had and he comes into 2023 as a favorite to win it again. There will be competition coming from players all across the nation this season. So let’s take a look at possible SEC Football Heisman contenders for the 2023 college football season.
Trevor Etienne, Running back, Florida Gators
The freshman running back for the Florida Gators had a breakout year in 2022. Trevor Etienne ran the ball 118 times for 719 yards and had 6 touchdowns in his freshman season as a Gator and looks to improve on those numbers. As a sophomore, the 5’9, 217 lbs Jennings, Louisiana native will look to carry Florida through SEC Football competition in 2023. Trevor is the younger brother of Travis Etienne who plays for the Jacksonville Jaguars, but he looks to do something his older brother didn’t do. Win a Heisman Trophy in college. Trevor will have to have an even better year in 2023 than he had in 2022 to be up for the award come December.
KJ Jefferson, Quarterback, Arkansas Razorbacks
With lots of turnover for SEC Football programs, KJ Jefferson may be the top quarterback in the conference. He’s ranked in the top 10 nationally in QB rating each year he’s played and the stats are worth noting. Jefferson has 1,174 rushing yards and 13 touchdowns running the ball. The Razorbacks quarterback has 12 games with at least 3 total touchdowns. KJ also has a 43-8 touchdown to interception ratio. He can scramble and make people miss in the open field which is a great asset for this team. If Jefferson stays healthy, he could have 25-30 passing touchdowns and 8-12 rushing touchdowns in 2023. With a season like that, we would possibly see KJ Jefferson in New York for the Heisman Trophy Ceremony.
Quinshon Judkins, Running back, Ole Miss Rebels
For Ole Miss in 2023, the formula for success may possibly be to run the ball. Quinshon Judkins walked into SEC Football play and became a first-team all-conference guy immediately. He has vision and an amazing ability to break tackles which is definitely a strength for Judkins. If the Ole Miss Rebels have a stellar season rushing the ball with Quinshon and the quarterback Jaxson Dart passes well, they could do better than predicted this season. With a good statistical year, Quinshon Judkins could be a finalist for SEC Football for the Heisman Trophy in 2023.
