Here is a look back at some of the SEC’s headlines from Monday and Tuesday, a two-day span that included the field being announced for the 2023 NCAA Tournament, NBA Draft updates, and more.
10 SEC teams selected to 2023 NCAA Tournament
Announced on Monday, a total of 10 SEC teams were selected to the 2023 NCAA Tournament, eight of which will host a Regional. Those teams, as well as seeds, are as follows: Florida (1), Arkansas (1), LSU (1), Vanderbilt (1), Kentucky (1), Auburn (1), South Carolina (1), Alabama (1), Tennessee (2), and Texas A&M (2).
Auburn F Johni Broome withdraws from 2023 NBA Draft
Auburn forward Johni Broome officially withdrew from the 2023 NBA Draft on Monday, and will return to the Tigers for the 2023-24 season. Broome started in all 33 games for the Tigers this past season, averaging 14.2 PPG, 8.4 RPG, and 2.4 BPG on 52.7% shooting from the field.
RHP Carson Fulmer signs with Los Angeles Angels
According to the clubs’ transactions log, right-handed pitcher Carson Fulmer signed a minor league deal with the Los Angeles Angels on Monday. Fulmer, a former 2015 first round pick out of Vanderbilt, recently spent the 2022 season in Triple-A of the Los Angeles Dodgers organization, owning a 6-6 record with a 2.86 ERA, 12 saves, and a 62:35 K:BB ratio across 56.2 IP.
Ole Miss G Matthew Murrell withdraws from 2023 NBA Draft
Ole Miss guard Matthew Murrell officially withdrew from the 2023 NBA Draft on Tuesday, and will return to the Rebels for the 2023-24 season. Murrell started in 29-of-30 games for Ole Miss this past season, averaging 14.4 PPG, 3.5 RPG, 2.6 APG, and 1.1 SPG on 84.3% shooting from the free throw line.
LSU C Will Baker withdraws from 2023 NBA Draft
Will Baker, a center who transferred to LSU from Nevada earlier this offseason, withdrew from the 2023 NBA Draft on Tuesday, and will join the Tigers for the 2023-24 season. Baker started in all 32 games at Nevada a year ago, averaging 13.6 PPG and 5.2 RPG on 84.2% shooting from the free throw line to receive Third Team All-MWC honors.
