SEC Baseball: Biggest advantage for each team in 2023 College World Series
By Matt Melton
The field for the 2023 College World Series is now officially set, with a total of three SEC teams set to travel to Omaha this week to compete for a national championship. Taking a look at those three teams, here is the biggest advantage that each has entering the 2023 College World Series.
What is the biggest advantage for each SEC baseball team in the 2023 College World Series?
Florida Gators – Pitching Staff
Aside from No. 1 overall seed Wake Forest, you could make the argument that the Florida Gators have the top overall pitching staff of any team at the 2023 College World Series, headlined by the star-studded rotation trio of Brandon Sproat, Hurston Waldrep, and Jac Caglianone. The Gators bullpen is also one of the best, and deepest, of any team in Omaha, as the likes of Brandon Neely, Philip Abner, Ryan Slater, and Cade Fisher all own an ERA under 4.00.
LSU Tigers – Offense
While the Tigers also have likely the top pitcher at the 2023 College World Series in right-hander Paul Skenes, LSU’s biggest advantage comes from their lineup, which is arguably the deepest of any team in Omaha. Led by the 2023 SEC Player of the Year Dylan Crews at a .434 AVG, alongside others such as Tommy White, Cade Beloso, Tre’ Morgan, Jared Jones, and more, the Tigers lineup, which owns a combined .314 AVG this season, will simply keep LSU in any game.
Tennessee Volunteers – Starting Rotation
Concluding with Tennessee, the Volunteers starting rotation is arguably their biggest advantage in the 2023 College World Series, as it is one of the best in Omaha. The trio of Andrew Lindsey, Chase Dollander, and Drew Beam has certainly impressed throughout the 2023 season, while Tennessee also has both Chase Burns and Zander Sechrist who have started games this year as well.
